The Arctic Sea Ice Loss
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientists discovered and photographed at least 10,000 walruses found on the beach of a barrier island near Point Lay on Alaska's northwest coast. The scientists first began to photograph 2,000 to 4,000 walruses on September 12. Since then the number of walruses increased on September 17. The walruses were gathered up on the beach because of the loss of sea ice. Many ice have melted and they depend on that to survive. The female walruses need them most because they give birth on ice. If the ice melts, then the offspring of the walruses will also decrease. But the loss of sea ice isn't just affecting the marine animals. They're also affecting the timing of plant growth. If the ice is changing the timing of the plant growth, then the changes in the plant growth affects the production of caribou calf births.
I found many subjects but this article caught my eye. It was about the loss of sea ice and how it effects the walruses in the Alaska's sea. Many, many different species of marine animals depend on the sea ice. It's their habitat. If the lost of sea ice is affecting the walruses, think about the penguins. We can stop the melting ice.
